Publishing Process

Psycounia: Indonesian Journal of Psychology and Counseling follows a systematic and quality-oriented publishing process to ensure that every article published meets the journal’s academic, methodological, ethical, and editorial standards. The publishing process begins with manuscript submission and continues through editorial screening, peer review, revision, final acceptance, production, and online publication.

1. Manuscript Submission

Authors submit their manuscripts through the journal’s designated submission system in accordance with the Psycounia Author Guidelines. Submitted manuscripts must be original works that have not been previously published and are not simultaneously under consideration by another journal.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript complies with the journal’s formatting, ethical, authorship, citation, and reference requirements.

2. Initial Editorial Screening

After submission, the Editorial Team conducts an initial screening to determine whether the manuscript is suitable for further consideration. The screening covers:

  • Alignment with the journal’s aims and scope;
  • Compliance with the Author Guidelines;
  • Manuscript structure and formatting;
  • Completeness of required submission information;
  • Academic relevance and basic scholarly quality;
  • Originality and plagiarism/similarity screening; and
  • Compliance with publication and research ethics.

Manuscripts that do not meet the basic requirements may be returned to the authors for correction or rejected at the initial screening stage.

3. Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are sent to two independent reviewers with relevant expertise.

Psycounia applies a double-blind peer review system, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential. Reviewers assess the manuscript’s originality, theoretical foundation, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions, references, and overall contribution to the field of psychology and counseling.

The estimated review process generally takes approximately 1 week to 1 month, depending on reviewer availability, the complexity of the manuscript, and the time required to complete the evaluation.

4. Revision by Authors

Based on the reviewers’ comments and the Editor’s decision, authors may be required to revise their manuscript.

Authors are expected to respond carefully to all reviewer comments and provide appropriate revisions. Where necessary, the revised manuscript may be returned to one or both reviewers for further evaluation.

The duration of this stage depends largely on the extent of revisions required and the authors’ responsiveness in submitting the revised manuscript.

5. Final Editorial Decision

After the review and revision process has been completed, the Editor makes the final decision regarding the manuscript.

The possible editorial decisions include:

  • Accept Submission – the manuscript is accepted for publication;
  • Minor Revision – limited revisions are required before final acceptance;
  • Major Revision – substantial revisions and possible further review are required; or
  • Reject – the manuscript does not meet the journal’s academic, methodological, ethical, or editorial standards.

Acceptance is granted only when the manuscript has satisfactorily addressed the necessary academic and editorial requirements.

6. Copyediting and Language Editing

After final acceptance, the manuscript enters the production stage. The Editorial Team conducts copyediting and language editing to improve clarity, consistency, grammar, terminology, citation presentation, and compliance with the journal’s publication style.

Any substantial editorial changes are made while maintaining the original academic meaning and authors’ scholarly arguments.

7. Layout and Proofreading

The accepted manuscript is formatted according to the official Psycounia journal template. Tables, figures, references, headings, citations, and other elements are checked for consistency and accuracy.

A final proof is prepared and may be sent to the corresponding author for proofreading. Authors are expected to check the proof carefully and report any necessary corrections within the timeframe specified by the Editorial Team.

At this stage, corrections should generally be limited to typographical, formatting, or factual errors identified during proofreading.

8. Final Publication

After the final proof has been approved, the article is prepared for official publication on the Psycounia: Indonesian Journal of Psychology and Counseling journal platform.

The published article becomes part of the journal’s official scholarly record and is made available to readers according to the journal’s applicable access and licensing policies.

9. Post-Publication

Psycounia maintains the integrity of its published articles after publication. If significant errors, ethical concerns, plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other forms of publication misconduct are subsequently identified, the Editorial Team may take appropriate action in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policies.

Such actions may include issuing a correction, publishing an expression of concern, or retracting an article when justified by the circumstances.

Estimated Publishing Timeline

The overall publishing timeline varies from manuscript to manuscript. In general, the review and revision stages may take approximately 1 week to 1 month, depending on reviewer availability, the number and extent of revisions, and the responsiveness of the authors.

The stated timeframe is an estimated processing period and does not constitute a guarantee of acceptance or publication within a specific period. The Editorial Team may extend the process when additional review, substantial revision, ethical clarification, or other quality-control procedures are required.

Through this publishing process, Psycounia: Indonesian Journal of Psychology and Counseling is committed to maintaining academic quality, editorial consistency, publication integrity, and responsible scholarly communication.
